This Privacy Policy explains how Bimlyte (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects personal data when you visit our marketing website at www.bimlyte.com (the “Website”).

This policy covers the Website only. The Bimlyte application is local-first: your IFC, BCF, and project files are processed entirely in your own browser and are never uploaded to us. For a plain-English explanation of how the app handles your data, see our Privacy page.

Who we are

Bimlyte is the data controller responsible for the personal data processed through this Website. Bimlyte is an independent, practitioner-led project serving the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) community.

The data we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run a fast, secure, informational website. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not run contact forms that store your submissions on the Website.

  • Server log data: like virtually every website, our hosting provider automatically records technical request data when you load a page — your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, the pages you view, and the date and time of the request. This is used to deliver the Website, keep it secure, and diagnose problems.
  • Analytics data: with your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate, pseudonymous usage — for example which pages are popular, approximate location (country/region derived from your IP address), and general device information. This helps us improve the content and performance of the Website.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use as few as possible, and we do not use advertising cookies or build advertising profiles. You can control cookies through the consent banner and your browser settings.

  • Strictly necessary and functional storage: to remember your choices — such as your light/dark theme preference and your cookie-consent decision — we store a small amount of data in your browser’s local storage. This is essential for the site to work as you expect and does not require consent. Your consent decision is stored together with the date on which you made it, and we ask you again after twelve months.
  • Analytics cookies: Google Analytics sets cookies to measure how the Website is used. These are set only after you accept analytics in the consent banner, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to measure and improve how the Website performs. Analytics runs only after you give consent.

Google Analytics processes pseudonymous data such as a randomly generated identifier, pages viewed, approximate location, and device and browser information. We have configured it to respect your privacy and we do not use it for advertising. You can withdraw consent at any time via the consent banner, and you can also install Google’s browser opt-out add-on. For more information, see Google’s own privacy documentation.

We implement Google Consent Mode v2. Before any Google tag can run, the Website declares that storage for advertising, advertising personalisation and analytics is denied. The advertising signals stay denied permanently, because we run no advertising tags at all; only the analytics signal is switched on if and when you accept. If you decline or ignore the banner, the Google Analytics script is never loaded and no data is sent to Google — we deliberately do not use the “advanced” variant of Consent Mode, which would contact Google before you have decided.

Why we process your data (legal bases)

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and comparable laws, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): for analytics cookies and any non-essential measurement. You give this through the consent banner and can withdraw it at any time.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): for operating, securing, and maintaining the Website, including the technical log data described above. We balance this against your rights and use only what we need.

How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected. Hosting log data is retained for a short period for security and troubleshooting and then deleted or aggregated. Google Analytics data is retained according to our configured retention period (by default, no longer than 14 months). If you withdraw consent, we stop collecting new analytics data from your visits.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for third-party advertising. We share limited data only with the service providers that make the Website work, acting as our processors:

  • Our hosting provider, to deliver and secure the Website.
  • Google, as the provider of Google Analytics, when you have consented to analytics.

International data transfers

Some of our providers, including Google, may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data. To exercise any of these, email us at contact@bimlyte.com:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data.
  • Restriction and objection — ask us to limit or stop certain processing.
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent — turn off analytics at any time, without affecting past processing.
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Children’s privacy

The Website is intended for professionals in the AEC industry and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically.
